Body

Enable Multi-Factor Authentication

Enabling multi-factor authentication is easy to do within your MotlowHUB account. Follow the steps below and enjoy better security.

Log into the MotlowHUB at https://sso.mscc.edu. Once logged in, click on your name in the top-right of the screen, then click on Settings.

On the Settings page, scroll down until you see the Extra Verification options.

The MotlowHUB offers different methods of multi-factor authentication. A brief description of each option is below.

MFA Type Description
Okta Verify Use the Okta Verify app on Android or iOS as an additional factor. Technical Operations highly recommends this option.
Security Key or Biometric Authenticator Use your computer's built-in biometrics (e.g. a fingerprint reader) or use a hardware security key (e.g. a YubiKey) as an additional factor.
Google Authenticator Use the Google Authenticator app on Android or iOS as an additional factor. You can also use any authenticator app that supports timed one-time passwords (TOTPs).
SMS Authentication Use your phone number and receive an SMS message with a one-time code as an additional factor.
Voice Call Authentication Use your phone number and receive a phone call with a one-time code as an additional factor.

Using a YubiKey

To use a YubiKey as your additional factor, click on the Set up button next to Security Key or Biometric Authenticator, then plug in your YubiKey into your computer.

You'll be redirected to the following screen. Click on Setup, then click on Enroll.

Using Google Chrome

If you have multiple security devices, such as a fingerprint reader or Windows Hello-compatible webcam, Google Chrome will ask you what device you want to use. For YubiKeys, select the USB security key option.

When you reach the prompt above, your YubiKey will start flashing. Lightly press the button on the YubiKey and it will be enrolled as an MFA device for your account. It's completely safe to unplug the YubiKey after enrolling - you'll only need to plug in the device when requested by the MotlowHUB. We highly recommend leaving it unplugged unless prompted.

Using Firefox?

Firefox may prompt you about the MotlowHUB requesting extended information and that it may affect your privacy. This is expected and it is safe to click on Proceed. If you are given the option to Anonymize anyway, leave the box unchecked, otherwise the YubiKey may not work as expected.
