Change your password

If you know your password and can use it to log in to your account, you can change your password in Users & Groups preferences:

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu, then click Users & Groups.
  2. Select your user name from the list of users.
  3. Click the Change Password button, then follow the onscreen instructions.

If you're still encountering an issue after trying the steps above, you can manually reset your keychain to create a new login keychain:

Login Password as the Keychain Password because they don’t match.

To open Keychain Access, search for it in Spotlight, then press Return.

  1. Go to the Keychain Access app  on your Mac                 
  2. Enter the login password to enter the Keychain Access app.
  3. Choose Keychain Access > Settings at the top of the screen.
  4. Click Reset Default Keychains.
  5. Enter the login password to reset the Default Keychains.
  6. When prompted, enter the login password to set the new Keychain password.
  7. Now the Keychain Password will match the Login Password.
